Peter Turney is a Senior Research Scientist at AI2. Since the turn of the millennium, he has been working towards the goal of computers understanding, learning, and reasoning with natural language. Before joining AI2, he was a Principal Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada, where he worked from 1989 to 2014. He received a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1988, specializing in deductive and inductive logic. In the past, he has been an Editor of Canadian Artificial Intelligence magazine, an Editorial Board Member, Associate Editor, and Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, and an Editorial Board Member of the journal Computational Linguistics. He is the author or co-author of more than eighty publications with more than 12,000 citations. His paper Mining the Web for Synonyms won the ECML PKDD 10 Years Award in 2011.
